Useful Information For Students In Manchester
The city of Manchester and surrounding areas has plenty of available student accommodation to suit all budgets.
In your first year studying it is more than likely that you will be staying in halls of residence. However when it comes to moving out and into your own accommodation for the 2nd year the best thing you can do is to find some friends who you want to share with, and between you visit the various areas offering student accommodation to see which one is best suited to you.
Checking out the local amenities will give you a good indicator of what life will be like there. If there are plenty of shops, newsagents, pubs and good transport links then you could have found the perfect area.
Based on our experience popular student areas include Fallowfield, Withington, Didsbury, Chorlton, Rusholme and Victoria Park.

Cycling is fast becoming a popular way for students to get around Manchester and surrounding areas. Not only is it good for the environment and your health but it also saves you money! Across the various campuses there are plenty of cycle parking stands to park your bike. It is important however to remember to use a good quality solid bicycle lock to ensure it is protected from theft.
Space for parking at all of the Manchester Universities and halls of residence is limited and only students with a disability or medical condition will be able to apply for a car parking permit. For this reason we recommend students try to car share wherever possible which will not only reduce your cost but will help reduce carbon emissions.
The city of Manchester and it’s surrounding areas has a large number of bus routes. Many of the bus operators in the area such as First Group and Stagecoach offer student discount which is something we recommend you take advantage of. Due to the many routes and large volume of buses running at any one time you will never be waiting too long for a bus which is probably the main reason travelling by bus is the most popular choice for students.
With two of the largest universities in the country it is no surprise there are student nights at various clubs and bars every night of the week. Based on our experience some of the most popular venues include Tiger Tiger Manchester, Factory 251, 5th Avenue and Roadhouse. To make sure you don’t miss out on the up and coming student nights out look out for nights advertised in your halls of residence.
